Adoptions Archive 2001
SHELTERS, HUMANE SOCIETIES, VETERINARIANS: WHEN REQUESTING WE LIST A DISABLED ANIMAL THAT NEEDS A HOME,
PLEASE EMAIL PETS WITH DISABILITIES WITH AN INFORMATIVE BIO, PET'S
LOCATION, PICTURE (NO HUMANS PLEASE) AND ACCURATE CONTACT INFORMATION. PLEASE KEEP US POSTED ON HOW AND WHEN THE
DOG OR CAT FINDS A HOME, SO THAT WE CAN KEEP OUR SITE UPDATED. THANK YOU.
Sienna was adopted in December 2001. Sienna is a beautiful female tabby. She has
FIV, but otherwise is in great health.Sienna is a very affectionate girl, and
loves attention. She enjoys being brushed, and if you're too busy she will even
brush herself! Once she gets to know you, she will lay in your lap and cuddle.
Sienna gets along with some cats, and will need someone willing to take the
time to introduce her slowly into a new household.
Big Ben was adopted in December 2001. Big Ben is a Tabby Cat who was rescued
from the county shelter. He'd been hit by a car and lost sight in one eye
and lost his tail. He's on a special diet of wet food and pumpkin to prevent
constipation. His bottom does need cleaning several times a week because of
the nerve damage from the injury. He is a sweet cat. Loves people, loves to
play, gets along with dogs and other cats and our hearts are just breaking
for him because he has not been adopted yet.
Otis was adopted, apparently in early November, 2001. Otis is a beautiful
fawn and black nuetered male, who was surrendered to a kill shelter after his
95 year old guardian died. Like so many pugs, Otis has limited vision, but has
learned to navigate my house very well, and does great on a leash. He is now
on cyclosporin eye drops twice a day, which he willingly accepts. This sweet
boy is housebroken, current on all vaccinations, and heartworm negative.
Benny has found his forever home with Molly a very sassy, one year old Lhaso,
and Mishka a 13 year old Siamese. Oh yes, he also has a couple of great humans
to spend time with! Benny is a 2 year old neutered Lhasa Apso Mix. He is almost
completely blind. He is very people oriented, most likely housebroken,
and walks well on leash.
Clancy was adopted in early November, 2001. Clancy is a 1-2 year old Australian
Shepherd mix who is deaf. He was rescued from one shelter where he was scheduled
to be put to sleep. His time at our shelter is not indefinite. He enjoys running
and playing in the communal dog area with his "friends." While in his kennel he
likes to be sprawled froglike, head up taking in all the activity. He takes
everything in stride, whether it is getting a bath or taking a walk. He seems
to relish any attention which is lavished upon him. He has gorgeous blue eyes
that are always surveying the world around him.
Ally was adopted in October, 2001. Ally is a 1-2 year old German Shepherd mix.
She has a long snout, and ears that tuck back, and long, slender legs. She was
found at the pound on 3/1/01 when Animal Control officers picked her up after
she was hit by a car. She had some damage to her front leg, and the vet had
to amputated her leg. She is heartworm negative, spayed and up-to-date on
shots. She is a very loving, sweet dog. She kept licking my hand,
as if to say "Thank you for saving me."
Great news! Sunny has a new home! We checked these folks out
thoroughly, their vet loves them,
and Austin rescue did a home check yesterday - they loved them too!
So my little guy will be moving down to Georgetown, TX this weekend.
He will have two dogs and four cats to play with. And two people to
give him lots of attention.
Sunny is a fun-loving little fellow. Born deaf (early 2001), but full of
life. He is probably a husky mix, but will be smaller
(at about 8 months, he weighs almost 30 lbs). Sunny is crate-trained and is
learning sign language. He loves other dogs and does great in public.
He does not mind being touched, but is too busy moving to stop and cuddle
too often. He is very loving and quite photogenic. Sunny has been neutered,
is up to date on all vaccinations, and is on heartworm preventative.
He is near Dallas, Texas.
Trudy was adopted near the end of September 2001.
Trudy was originally rescued from a shelter here in Austin. She had a badly
mangled front leg, which we tried to have an orthopedic vet repair.
When we x-rayed her leg, it appeared that she had been shot, as there were
several bullets in her. The repairs were not successful, in the end her body
rejected the pins in her elbow joint, and we ended up amputating the leg.
During all of this, and the time that she lived with me as a foster, I never
once heard her growl or complain. She was a favorite client at the vet clinic,
and remains a happy and cheerful Doberman. Trudy is cat friendly, dog friendly,
child friendly, and an extraordinary ambassador for this breed. She loves to
play, and is not at all hampered by the amputation. She loves to run and play
and jump, and could always keep up with the four-legged dogs. In fact, she is
faster than my four legged Doberman! She needs no extra care or special medical
attention, just needs an indoor home where she will be spoiled, loved,
and cared for for the rest of her life.
Buddy the white shep/lab was adopted a in September 2001 by a wonderful
family and they are extremely happy with him. Buddy is an awesome dog.
He only has three legs, but don't tell him, he doesn't know it. He likes to
play ball and have fun. He loves attention and is such a good boy.
Wonderful news! McDuff the beautiful orange/white cat that was blind has been
adopted. He found his forever home in Columbus, Ohio with a lovely new mom
named Judy. McDuff has had quite an adventurous week. Thursday he flew on a
plane for the first time and is currently getting settled in his new home.
His new mom is thrilled with him, bless her for opening up her home to this
special needs kitty. Your website was instrumental in finding him his
new home, thank you from McDuff and me.
This is Sugar (formerly known as Snuggles on this web site). She is a blind
and deaf Australian Shepherd mix. I drove from Denver, Colorado to Amarillo,
Texas to pick her up from her foster dad, Parrish, who had saved her from a
Dallas shelter. I fell in love with her from her pictures on this site.
She has beautiful merle coloring on her back and sides and she always seems
to have a big smile on her face. She is an amazing puppy who just lives life
to the fullest. She gets around really well by smelling her way or by
feeling vibrations through the floor.
I take her to the dog park by my house and let her run free with the other
dogs (and her sister Lu Lu who has 3 legs). People can't believe how well
she gets around and they think that she can see. But she can't. Her eye
balls are covered up by her 3rd eye lids and so all you see is pink skin.
Her right eye can barely be seen but it's a beautiful blue one even if it
is tiny. Sugar can do pretty much anything a regular dog can do. You just
can't be a lazy person with a blind and deaf dog. When she gets lost I will
go get her and then she'll follow along all happy that she knows where I am.
She loves going on walks and car rides and she jumps right up in the car
no problem. One of her favorite places is PetsMart where she and Lu Lu can
pick out all the toys and chewies to their hearts content. Sugar and Lu Lu's
disabilities don't keep them out of trouble either, they chew on things,
dig up my flower beds and play like crazy rabid dogs. They're puppies and
they're having the time of their lives!
Wonderful news, Chloe, our three-legged dog has been adopted!
We were finally able to get her into one of our best foster homes and
she was adopted shortly thereafter to a lady who has just retired
and will be with her all the time.
GREAT news. The adoption for Blackie and the little blind one (Captain Hook)
has been completed! Both cats are now living with a loving family in CT. And
they even have a cat named Salem who looks just like Blackie!
Thank you for your amazing website and for all the WONDERFUL people who
emailed us with suggestions, help, and offered loving homes! Without them,
we wouldn't have found the loving family in CT!
Chance has been adopted by a wonderful family in NJ and they are "working "
on the hand signals. Thanks for all your help in posting him for us.
Chance is a special needs little guy. He is happy, healthy, playful and deaf.
He is a beautiful white pit bull terrier mix with a black
dash over his left eye. Chance is crate-trained and is housebroken. He
loves to snuggle in the morning before the day begins and loves to play the
rest of the day. He is smart, lovable and willing to learn. He is starting
to learn hand signals and is looking for someone to continue to teach him
and love him forever. Neutered, all shots and heartworm negative.
GREAT NEWS! Blue and Clue have found a warm loving home! Thanks Pets with
Disabilities for finding these two felines a home together. Now, Blue can
continue hearing for his brother Clue!
GREAT NEWS! Thanks to Pets with Disabilities, we have found a loving home for
Ralphie. Ralphie now resides with a wonderful caring couple and their new
puppy in Southern Maryland. Pets with Disabilities will provide continued
support to the couple and Ralphie's medical needs.
GREAT NEWS! Prince has been rescued and adopted by our local Calvert
County Humane Society President. Thanks Pets With Disabilities for getting
the word out on Prince and finding a safe and loving home for him!
Prince is a Wheaten Terrier. He is very SPECIAL, because he is blind in
both eyes. He is a sweet dog and definitely knows his name and now has a special home.
SUCCESS! NO NAME YET has been adopted by a local family. He is in
good company now, with his new companion pug sister and family. Congratulations
and good luck to our three legged pup and his new family!!!
NO NAME YET, was rescued recently by a caring citizen living in the
Levi/Marion County, Florida. He is an eight week old mostly German Shepherd
puppy. He is a victim of animal abuse. He was found with his hind leg cut off
at the joint above his foot. He is well healed, and is in no need of
immediate veternary care. Other than being three legged, he is a healthy,
strong puppy that needs a caring home.
SUCCESS! Thanks so much for putting Lucky on your web site.
He was adopted,by a very nice couple who
just adore him. He goes swimming and camping with his new family
and is currently in training to learn to deal with his disability. Thank
you so much and we all hope that all the other pets with disabilities are as "Lucky" as he was.
Lucky is an American Staffordshire Terrier who has been at the New
Hampshire S.P.C.A. since March. He is a very happy-go-"lucky" kind of
guy,who likes kids and dogs.Since he has never lived with cats we don't
know how he would be with them.He is crate trained and somewhat leash
trained and enjoys playing with his toys, baths swimming and driving in
the car. During his stay at the S.P.C.A. Lucky was neutered, while at
the vets it was discovered that he is almost totally deaf. Since that time
he has quickly learned a few hand signals.Training him has been easy as he
is very intelligent and his nature makes him eager to please.
SUCCESS! Buddy has been adopted by a wonderful family from Ohio. They
are all excited for Buddy to meet their chocolate lab. He will join his new
family the end of August. Thanks, Pets with Disabilities for your generous
donation towards Buddy's medical treatments. He will be a great pet to his new family.
Buddy, is a Lab who was rescued by Lucky Ones, located at 19625 Aquasco Road,
Aquasco, Md. 20608. He is a very handsome and gentle young fellow, who has
a serious hip problem that requires corrective therapy.
Luckily, for Buddy, between Lucky Ones
and Double D’s, Inc. we have raised
enough funds for Buddy to have some corrective therapy.
UNBELIEVABLE NEWS! Sadar, has been adopted by Lady's owners, the Johnson
family. The Johnson family learned about Sadar from the website. As you know
Lady and Sadar are both blind. What a special family the Johnson's are to
commit themselves to sharing their lives with Sadar and Lady. We will be looking
forward to getting updates on both Lady and Sadar in the future!
A Boxer/Lab named Sadar was turned in by his owner. They had the dog since it was six weeks old.
The dog was born blind and the original owner was going to put the puppy to sleep but
the other family asked to take him. Of course, no one wanted to adopt a blind dog.
And we didn't want to put him up front for someone to do the OH, POOR THING ROUTINE.
So I took him. I got involved with Breed Rescue and have a place that I can take a
dog until they can be moved into breed rescue. What I've been doing is looking to
find Sadar the right place. He did go to Breed Rescue in Monroe, NC. The person had
her own dog that was an intact male, Sadar was intact, I don't think they got along.
I went and picked Sadar up. He has been neutered and is on heartworm preventive.
He is 1.5 years old. This dog is so amazing. He does not know he has a handicap.
He knows where things are in my backyard and runs and plays. I throw a ball with a
bell it it and he runs after it. When the bell stops, he puts his nose to the ground
and starts looking for it. I have a 4 month old german sheppard puppy with him and
they get along fine. Buddy will pick the ball up and run, Sadar runs after both.
When he jumps up, he jumps backwards. He knows where he has been. He rides in
my truck, in the front seat fine. I do need to find a good home for him.
