Rosie spent her first two years of life in a Missouri puppy mill. There was a bright ray of hope for her when she landed in a Maryland shelter, but that was nearly extinguished after just a few short days of freedom. Rosie was so frighten being in the “real world” that she broke away from her foster and disappeared.
A small, dedicated group of volunteers got involved and led the search the get her back. On the 10th day she was found, barely alive, at the bottom of a ravine, in a creek, trapped under a tree root, with her head just barely above the water. They knew she was severely injured as her back legs were lifeless.
PWD was called, and we got her to the hospital where it was determined she had suffered a spinal fracture. Euthanasia was recommended. But Rosie’s will to survive, her will to LIVE, was so evident to us that we knew we had to give her a chance. Rosie has been a great patient as her injuries heal. She allows us to manage her needs and is learning how to use her new wheelchair. While things haven’t gone as everyone had hoped for her, Rosie is thriving and learning to live her life to fullest. Her journey through life, free from the horrors of the puppy mill, is just beginning.
